Horse Extension ProgramsHorsemen's Short Course: Worked with county agents to organize a three-part yearly program customized for clientele interest. Subject matter choices included nutrition, health care, facility design, basic training principles, reproduction, horse psychology and behavior, hoof care, and equine law. P.R.E.P. Training: Program developed to show horse owners how to utilize horse psychology and behavior in training young horses as well as correcting faults of older horses. Six to seven P.R.E.P. training sessions are conducted per year (600-700 attendance). A video of the training was produced and is being used in Arkansas and six other states. Producer Meetings: There are continual requests for producer meetings on timely topics related to horse ownership. These meetings (8 to 10 per year) are scheduled when requested by county agents, producers, riding clubs, and breed organizations. Steve M. Jones,
