Test Your Beef IQ

The University of Arkansas, Cooperative Extension Service is offering an in-depth educational program (Beef IQ) for producers looking to expand their knowledge of beef production and the beef industry.  This program will help producers to evaluate their current enterprises and learn techniques and methods that will improve decision-making.

Beef IQ is a six-session program offered throughout the year at Fayetteville and Monticello, Arkansas.  Sessions will address current topics and issues related to breeding and selection (February), reproduction (March), herd health (May), economics (July), forage production (September), and nutrition (October).  Each session lasts approximately six hours with lunch and refreshments provided.

Registration for the six-session program is $100 per person and $50 for one additional person (e.g., spouse, manager, or business partner).  For less than $20 per session, attendees will participate in hands-on activities during each session that can be used to evaluate farm resources and develop a farm management plan.

Registration for either the Fayetteville or Monticello program will begin in November 2007. Producers can register by calling 501.671.2183 or by mailing in a registration form (ask your county agent or program sponsor representative) and submitting a check payable to the Agriculture Development Council.  Registration deadline is December 21, 2007.

For more information, contact your local county Extension office or visit with one of the program sponsors.

This program is sponsored by the Arkansas Beef Council, Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Farm Bureau of Arkansas, Farm Credit Services of Western Arkansas, and AgHeritage Farm Credit Services.
