Overall, seed companies indicate that there will be plenty of good quality
soybean seed available this year in Arkansas, and in the rest of nation. [Video

certain varieties of seed may be low and growers should book preferred varieties
as soon as possible.
As of February 4th, 2010, Arkansas State Plant Board
germination and accelerated aging tests on soybean seed show that seed quality
is good now but the concern is if the quality will remain high in storage.
Over the next six months, seed companies will be monitoring seed in storage
more frequently than in the past. Seed labs have noted more mold on seeds
because of last year’s wet fall. [Picture showing a flooded soybean field with

treatments as a precaution.
Growers should verify the vigor of their seed prior to planting
by completing
accelerated aging tests on their own or asking the seed companies for a recent
accelerated aging test for the seed lot. A recent accelerated aging test is
important because seed vigor tends to decline in storage more than germination
rates.
