Grain Sorghum Production in Arkansas
Grain Sorghum Verification Weekly Blog

June 30, 2008

General Info Fields this week were between V12 and V16 with some heads showing up in Ashley County. The irrigated fields should get watered this coming up week, if they didn’t receive rain over the weekend. Midge scouting should start soon.

General Information

The field received 0.8 inches of rain last week, which put off irrigation until June 30. The field is in good shape, and the Permit is doing a nice job on the nutgrass. Some heads are starting to appear in the field, and midge has been spotted in that part of the state, so scouting for midge will start this week.

When I got to this field this week, the first thing I noticed was the pale green color. As we walked the field, it was evident that we lost our earlier nitrogen application. With good chances of rain over the weekend, we decided on 100 pounds of Urea to try and pull it out. Field really needs a rain.

This field is in excellent shape. Moisture is still good, and we decided to hold off on irrigation until June 30, if it didn’t rain. This field continues to be an excellent field that should yield good.
