Corn Production in Arkansas
Corn Verification Weekly Blog

June 30, 2008

General Info

Fields ranged from V11 to R1. All the fields are in excellent shape. The late-planted field in Independence County received a flood irrigation and took it well. I was concerned that it was too small, but it all went well. Some of the fields have hit R1. We continue to scout for Southern Rust and are prepared to spray if necessary. All the fields are Bt, so Corn Bores are not a concern.

General Information

Conway

R1

This field received an irrigation from the pivot last week, but mid way through the irrigation, the pivot got stuck. The producer got the pivot out and resumed the irrigation. The corn looks great and is silking.

Cross

R1

125

This field received 100 lbs of Urea on June 17 and has been irrigated. The field is silking now and looks great. We will keep up the irrigation on this field weekly.

Independence

V11

30

The field received its first flood irrigation last week and responded positively. The field is in great condition and if no rain, it should receive 100 lbs of Urea and another irrigation this week.

Lawrence

V16

72

Field was irrigated last week and received 0.7 inches of rain. The rain came in the form of a thunderstorm that blew down the bottom 5 acres of the field. Not sure if this will stand back up or not, it doesn’t look good. The field should have received 100 lbs of Urea also.

Lee

VT

117

This field received 100 lbs of Urea on June 21 followed by an irrigation. Another irrigation is called for this week.
Lonoke

R1

119

This field continues to be one of the best fields in the program. There was 0.45 inches of rain that fell over the week and an irrigation was applied also. Continue to irrigate.
Monroe

R1

Finished off the 100 lbs of Urea on this field and followed that up with an irrigation. Field is scheduled for another irrigation this week.

Poinsett
