Forage/Plant Test ScreenForage/Plant Test Screen

The Forage/Plant Test screen is also a dual purpose screen, containing test results for forage that will be used as feed for livestock, as well as test results for crops that you are growing or harvesting. Like the Soil Test screen, you can select up to three crop codes (or species id's in the case of forages) for each test using the crop codes menu or search screen. Like the Manure test screen, you can also have the program convert and fill in the values for the percentage fields as needed (including for some nutrients in this case), which should also be stored on a Dry Matter basis.

Plant/Crop Analysis ScreenPlant/Crop Analysis Screen

When the Plant/Crop button is clicked on from the Field Information screen, you will see the small Plant/Crop Analysis screen, as shown above. In it, you can specify the crop and yield that you harvested from this field, as well as tie it into crop test results entered into the Forage/Plant Test screen. The Source Test Identification box shows some of the measurements and information from the attached test results record.

When you are adding a new Plant Analysis record, you can click on the Crop button to bring up the Crop Code search screen. For this screen, only the crop number is displayed. It will probably be one of the three crop codes entered into the Field Information Screen anyway, so you should still be able to tell what it is in this display. The Yield amount units is dependent on the crop grown, such as in bushels.

To specify the attached test when adding or editing the Plant/Crop Analysis record, click on the Tests button to bring up the Forage/Plant Test screen to scroll through and pick the test, or click on the Browse button to bring up a grid-like browse screen with those tests and select the test by clicking on it's record and pressing the Enter key (as described in the screen title area). For both of these methods, you can cancel the selection process if needed.

Browse Plant/Crop Analysis WindowBrowse Plant/Crop Analysis Window

The Plant/Crop Browse button in the lower right corner of the screen is used to display all of the Plant Analysis records. (This is the button below the Exit button, not the button for the source test identification.) If you want to go directly to one of those records, click in one of the fields for the record or use the arrow keys to highlight one of its fields, then press the Enter key to select it. This closes the Browse window and displays that record in the Plant/Crop Analysis screen. Otherwise, press the ESCape key to close the Browse window and display the record you were on when you brought the Browse window up initially. This browse button works the same in all of the other application screens.

Browse Forage Test WindowBrowse Forage Test Window

The Browse button in the Plant/Crop's Source Test Identification box is used to display all of the Forage Test records that you can select from when adding or editing a Plant Analysis record, or to display the current Forage Test record attached to the Plant Analysis record when you are just reading this record. (This is the button beside the tests button, not the button for browsing the Plant Analysis records.)

The screen shown above just displays the current Forage Test record, since the record is not locked for edit. If you were in Add or Edit mode, you would probably see more than one Forage test record that you could select from. To make that selection, you would click on one of the displayed record's fields or highlight it using the arrow keys to get there, and then press the Enter key. In any mode, pressing the ESCape button closes the Browse window and returns you back to the current Plant Analysis record without making any changes. This browse button works the same in all of the other application screens.

Plant/Crop Analysis Edit ScreenPlant/Crop Analysis Edit Screen

When you press the Add or Edit button in the Plant/Crop Analysis screen, the "Locked for Edit - Save or Cancel" message is shown in the Field Information screen, and the "Add/Change Test" message is displayed above the Tests and Browse button in the Source Test Identification box to remind you to select the test to attach using either of those two buttons.

If you want to revert back to the original contents of the Plant Analysis record that you are currently editing, you can press the Cancel button, and any changes you made while you were editing this record will be ignored.

Note that you cannot make any changes to the Field Information screen while the Plant/Crop Analysis screen is displayed. It will beep at you if you try to select anything in that screen with the mouse. If you want to change anything in the Field Information screen, you will first have to Exit from the Plant/Crop Analysis screen before making your changes. This is also true for any of the other application screens brought up from the Field Information screen.
