Frequently Asked Questions (F A Q)

This page will be updated periodically with new questions as the need arises.

Select a question below to see the answer.

1. Can an out-of-state producer use the Farm Management Program?

2. Running the setup program gives this error message: Cannot create C:\windows\temp\fm\disk2.

1.  Question : I don’t live in Arkansas, but I saw an article about the Farm Management program in a farming publication. Can I use the program, or would I have to make a lot of changes since I live in another state?

Answer:  The Farm Management program does have 3 databases that contain data specific to the state of Arkansas: The county database (county.dbf), plant crop code database (cropcode.dbf) and forage species code database (speccode.dbf). The program can be used “as-is”, or they can be customized by the user to reflect data for the user’s state. Using the program with no modifications will still give the user access to all screens, reports, and features of the program. However, the user will have to select an Arkansas county and that county name will be reflected in reports and screens. Selected plant crop codes and species code may not match what is used in the user’s state. We are in the process of contacting a person in the Extension Service of in each of the border states of Arkansas to serve as the Farm Management contact for their state. This person would be responsible for changing the above databases to reflect the information for your particular state. State contacts will be listed in this space, so keep checking from time to time.

2.  Question: When I run the setup program to install the Farm Management program, I receive this error message: Cannot create C:\windows\temp\fm\disk2. The setup routine then stops. Am I doing something wrong?

Answer: You are not doing anything wrong. We have noticed on some machines the setup program doesn’t create the needed directories automatically. Using Windows Explorer, check to see if the pathname C:\windows\temp\fm\disk2 exists and manually create directory disk2 if it does not exist. Once this complete pathname exists, go back and run the setup program again and this error should not appear. If you have questions on how to create the directory, please contact bbridges@uaex.edu.
