2008 SOYVA - Program Updated 04/01/2008

The 2008 SOYVA program is ready for release. To install the Soybean Variety Selection Program on the hard disk (drive C:) of your personal computer, read the following instructions and then click on the link at the bottom of this page to download the program. The program and supporting files have been compressed into one file to make downloading easier. You may want to print this page for further reference.

After you select the link below, a screen will ask you where you would like to save the file. It is best to save it in a temporary directory such as c:\temp. If it is not saved in this directory, be sure to remember where you store it.

After downloading, select the Start button from the taskbar, and then choose Run. In the Open section of the Run box, type in c:\temp\08soyva.exe. This will begin a self-extracting unzip program which will copy the files to the correct location on the hard disk. The unzip program is setup to automatically unzip to the directory C:\SOYBEAN\VAR. If you would like to change this directory name, you may do so before selecting the Unzip button. Upon completion, a message will be displayed stating that "5 file(s) unzipped successfully."

If you would like to create a desktop shortcut for running the SOYVA program, go into Windows Explorer and find the C:\SOYBEAN\VAR directory. (If your program is installed in a directory other than C:\SOYBEAN\VAR, go there instead.) Highlight the soyva.exe program name so that it appears in a blue box. Please make sure you highlight the application SOYVA.EXE and not the zipped file 08SOYVA.EXE -- otherwise you will shortcut to the zip file and not the application! With the program name SOYVA.EXE highlighted, press the right mouse button. From the menu that appears, select "Create Shortcut", which now appears as the last item of your directory listing. Highlight the "Shortcut to soyva.exe" and drag-and-drop onto your desktop. Exit Windows Explorer. On the desktop, you will now see a bright yellow and blue icon labeled 2008 SOYVA. Pressing this icon will begin the program.

If you don’t already have a listing in your Applications menu for SOYVA, select Start/Settings/ Taskbar and click on the tab for Start Menu programs. From the Customize Start Menu box, select Add. On the Create Shortcut screen, select Browse to find C:\SOYBEAN\VAR and click twice on SOYVA.EXE; select Next. From the Select Program Folder screen, scroll down until you see the Applications folder and click twice. From the Select a Title for the Program screen, type in SOYVA, and then press the Finish button. Click OK to close the Taskbar Properties box. Now the SOYVA program can be activated by selecting Start/Programs/Applications/SOYVA.

The user’s guide for the SOYVA program is included in the HELP system of SOYVA. If you would like a printed copy, press the Help button on the main screen, and then select the Contents tab. Select the purple book located to the left of the words "User’s Guide", which opens the book and displays the chapters found in the book. With "User’s Guide" highlighted, select the print button at the bottom of the screen. This prints all chapters of the guide.

The SOYVA Input Form is also included in the SOYVA documentation. To print out a blank copy of the this form, follow these steps:

* Select Help button from SOYVA Input Screen.

* Select the Index tab.

* Double-click on the index entry Input Form.

* Select the Print button at the top of the screen.

* Make sure to select the proper printer, then select OK on the Print screen.
