Arkansas Broiler Chick Placements Up 17 Percent from Last Year
USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service indicates that broiler-type
chicks placed for meat production in Arkansas were up 17 percent from last year
with 26.1 million being placed.
Broiler growers in the 19-State weekly program placed 179 million chicks for
meat production with placements up 3 percent from a year earlier. Cumulative
placements from December 30, 2007 through March 8, 2008 were 1.78 billion, up 3
percent from the same period a year earlier.
Broiler meat production for first-quarter 2008 production was raised by 125
million pounds to 9.1 billion and the estimate for the second quarter was
increased by 50 million pounds, bringing the second quarter estimate to 9.4
billion and the 2008 yearly estimate to 37.1 billion.
