Policy/Energy/Noteworthy: Fueling America - Bio-based fuels to power a thirsty nation (1:44 minutes)

Fueling America - Bio-based fuels to power a thirsty nation - I’m Bobby Coats Extension Economist University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture.

USDA has releases a video titled “Fueling America - Bio-based fuels to power a thirsty nation.”

The video discusses our dependence on fossil fuels to power vehicles and this dependence has come with a price. The video points out that world markets and geopolitics dictate what we pay at the pump. And beyond the gas station, there is an even bigger problem. Gasoline-powered vehicles produce carbon dioxide at an astonishing rate and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has been linked to increases in air pollution, greenhouse gases and climate change. But America is beginning to meet these environmental and economic challenges.

The video over a half-hour, shows how scientists are meeting the environmental and economic challenges with new, innovative ideas across the country.

“From super yeasts that improve ethanol production…
To small business-developed technologies that recycle fats into biodiesel…
From algae unlocking the power of photosynthesis for clean hydrogen fuel…
To switchgrass – a fast-growing biomass alternative for making ethanol…
Scientists are revolutionizing the way we power the country.”
