New Secretary of Agriculture Ed Schafer
On January 28, 2008 Ed Schafer was sworn in as the 29th Secretary of the U.S.
Department of Agriculture (USDA). President George Bush said, "Ed will lead a
Department that oversees our food, agriculture, natural resources, food safety,
and health and nutrition programs. He will be an advocate for farmers, ranchers,
and consumers as he works to open new markets for their products."
Secretary of Agriculture Appoints National Pork
Producers Delegate Body
USDA's Secretary of Agriculture Ed Schafer appointed 155 pork producers and
8 importers to the 2008 National Pork Producers Delegate Body. All
appointees will serve a 1-year term. Arkansas' two appointed members are Jack A. Gourley and Steve C. Stephan.
