Policy: Part 3 of 8 - 2009 Federal Crop Insurance and Noninsured Disaster Assistance (NAP) Program requirements to be eligible for 4 of the 5 New Supplemental Agricultural Disaster Assistance Farm Bill Programs (2:04 minutes)

Audio/Video Script:

Robert Coats, Ph.D.
Extension Economist and Professor
University of Arkansas, Division of Agriculture

The 2009 Federal Crop Insurance and Noninsured Disaster Assistance (NAP) Program requirements to be eligible for 4 of the 5 New Supplemental Agricultural Disaster Assistance Farm Bill Programs are as follows:

  • For 2009, the sales closing date for Federal Crop Insurance and the application closing date for Noninsured Disaster Assistance (NAP) Program has not passed for any crop in Arkansas. For 2009 a buy-in option will NOT be available, so producers must purchase the Federal Crop Insurance coverage and or Noninsured Disaster Assistance (NAP) Program coverage before the sales closing or application date.

  • The first application closing date is September 1, 2008, so consult your local Farm Service Agency office for a list of crops and their closing dates.

  • Producers must insure crops that are covered with Federal Crop Insurance at a level not less than 50 percent yield coverage at 55 percent of the insurable price at an agent of their choice.

  • Producers shall obtain Noninsured Disaster Assistance (NAP) Program coverage by completing an application and paying the applicable fees at their respective Farm Service Agency offices. Noninsured Disaster Assistance (NAP) Program covers the amount of loss greater than 50 percent of the expected production based on the approved yield and reported acreage.
